by Edmond Haraucourt (1856 - 1941)

Il pleut sur la mer, lentement
Language: French (Français)
Il pleut sur la mer, lentement:
La mer crépite sous la pluie;
Le ciel gris tombe en s'endormant
Vers la mer grise qui s'ennuie.

La vague et la vague qui suit
S'assoupissent comme les brises:
Nulle brise et nul autre bruit
Que le frisson des gouttes grises.

Sur la mer, sur toute la mer,
Et par delà l'ombre des îles,
Il pleut des tristesses d'hiver
Et des renoncements dociles.

Tout un infini de douleurs
Tombe sur la vie embrumée:
Dans les larmes du monde en pleurs
Mon coeur pleure la bien-aimée.
