Ninetta
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Italian (Italiano)
Our translations:  ENG
Es waren drei Jungfrauen
Und alle drei verliebt.
Die schönste von den dreien,
Ninetta stieg zu Schiff.

Da sie das Ruder führte,
Fiel ihr der Ring ins Meer.
-- O Fischer auf den Wogen,
Komm rasch zum Fischen her!

-- Fisch' ich das Ringlein wieder,
Was soll mein Fanggeld sein?
-- Einhundert Goldzechinen
In seidnem Beutelein.

-- Behalt' nur die Zechinen,
Den Beutel auch zur Stund.
Nur einen Kuß der Liebe
Will ich von deinem Mund.

-- Wenn es mein Vater hörte,
Was würd' er sagen, ach?
-- Sei still, laß ihn [nichts]1 merken!
Ich freie dich hernach.

Und hast du mich gefreiet,
Was giebst du mir alsdann?
-- Zu einem hohen Berge
Trag' ich dich flugs hinan.

Von drei und dreißig Ziegeln
Bau' ich dir dort ein Haus,
Und drei und dreißig Maler
Die malen es dir aus.

Von drei und dreißig Farben
Schenk' ich dir ein Gewand,
Und drei und dreißig Schneider
Näh'n es mit ihrer Hand.

Confirmed with Paul Heyse, Italienisches Liederbuch, Berlin: Verlag von Wilhelm Hertz (Bessersche Buchhandlung), 1860, pages 125-126.

Note for Göhler's setting: when stanza 7 line 2 is repeated, instead of "Bau' ich" the soprano sings "Baust du"; and in the repetition of stanza 7 line 4, "dir" becomes "uns".

1 Göhler: "nicht"
