Par ne sçay quelle estrange inimitié
J’ai veu tomber mon esperance à terre,

Through some strange enmity
Language: English  after the French (Français)
Through some strange enmity
I saw my hope fall to earth,
Not like a rock but fragile like glass,
And half-shatter my desires.
My Lady, in whom heaven placed my love,
Why then for a flatterer who so crudely errs
Do you stir me up so much in war
Depriving my heart of your sweet pity?
Well, if you wish, make me languish in pain;
Until death un-nerves and un-veins me
I shall be yours. Sooner will Chaos
Take up again his ancient quarrel
Than another beauty, another love than yours
Will take my back captive beneath its yoke.
