See the happy arrival of joyous...
Language: English  after the French (Français)
See the happy arrival of joyous Springtime
Which makes doleful winter retire complaining;
Already the small shoots at soft Zephyr’s wish,
Pierced by his love, are softly swaying.
The forests have regained their green clothing,
The sky is smiling, the air is warm, the gentle breeze sighs,
The nightingale laments and with the harmonies he sings
He makes our spirits faint with sweet delight.
The god Mars and Love are out in the countryside;
The one bathes in human blood, the other in their tears,
The one holds his cutlass, the other brings his darts.
Let he who wishes follow Mars, dying in arms;
I want to follow Love and my alarms will be
Little rages, sighs, tears and glances.
