Nachtwandel
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Ich wandelte in tiefer Nacht,
in tiefer Ruh, in tiefem Tod.
[Und kein Gedanke glühte]1 mehr.
Ich wandelte in tiefer Nacht
in [einen]2 tiefen Tannenforst,
in stätem Schritt, gar mühelos,
wohl hinter einem Fuhrwerk drein.
Auf hohem Sitz der Fuhrmann saß.
Noch rief ich manchmal nachtverträumt:

behind a horse and cart.
The coachman sat upon a high seat.
Lost in nighttime dreaminess I still called out occasionally:
“Stop, stop, and take me along with you.”
But I was no longer really serious about it.
For I felt he would take me along,
he would take me along in any case . . .
