tutto il regno d'amore,
dimandando pietà, chiedendo aita
nell'infelice sua povera vita.
Ne per ben salda fede
poté trovar mercede,
ché di quante egli amò crudeli a torto
ch'il fuggì, ch'il tradì, ch'il volle morto.

Tornò dal suo cammino
il mio cor pellegrino,
ne pietoso favor ha mai trovato
per il mendico suo misero stato.
Femminil cortesia
forz'è che spenta sia,
ch'ogni ricca beltà resa tenace
non l'udì, nol mirò, lo mandò in pace.

Le pèlerin

Mon cœur va en mendiant
à travers tout le royaume de l'amour,
demandant la pitié, appelant au secours
pour sa pauvre vie malheureuse.
Pas même pour une fidélité inébranlable
pourrait-il trouver la miséricorde
car plus il aime à tort des femmes cruelles,
plus elles le fuient, le trahissent, souhaitent qu'il soit mort.

Il revient de son voyage,
mon cœur pèlerin,
n'ayant pas trouvé la moindre compassion
pour son misérable état de mendiant.
La gentillesse des femmes
est peut-être si lasse
que toutes celles qui sont riches en beauté restent insensibles,
ne l'entendent pas, ne le voient pas, l'envoient au loin.
