Taci, lo voglio, e basti
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Our translations:  ENG
Taci, lo voglio, e basti;
meglio il dover consiglia:
mostrami in te la figlia
degna del genitor.
Di un passeggero orgoglio
perdono in te l'eccesso;
ti dica questo amplesso,
che mi sei cara ancor.

(si sentono da lungi squillar le trombe)

Ma già le trombe squillano!
Giunge Rodrigo! Oh sorte!
Io ti precedo: seguimi,
ed offri al prode, al forte
in puro omaggio il cor.

Di quelle trombe al suono
ah! Ridestar mi sento
nel core, di forze spento,
l'usato mio valor.

Be silent: let my will suffice
Language: English  after the Italian (Italiano)
Be silent: let my will suffice;
better that duty should guide you:
show yourself to me as a daughter
becoming her sire.
I pardon in you
a fleeting outburst of pride;
may this embrace show you
how dear you are to me still.

(trumpets in the distance)

But now the trumpets sound!
Rodrigo has arrived! O fortune!
I shall precede you: follow close behind,
and offer to that brave warrior
your heart in true homage.
At the sound of those trumpets,
I feel in my heart
the reawakening of my accustomed valor,
previously sapped of its vigor.
