Горел восток – когда к великой цели
Мы против волн направили челнок.
Мы плакали, мы верили, мы пели,-
Нас не страшил «неумолимый Рок».

Для жертв толпы, тупой и озверелой,
Сплетали мы венки небесных роз.
Над тьмой веков сверкал наш парус белый,
А на корме спокойно спал Христос.

Но вот гудят бушующие сферы,
Сокрыта звезд святая красота.
И смотрим мы с тоской забытой веры
На кроткий лик уснувшего Христа.

Блаженный край, ты вновь недосягаем!
Мы встретим смерть без гимнов и цветов…
И на устах немеет скорбный зов:
«О Господи, проснись!.. Мы погибаем!»
