Thy visage so dark, and thy tempest's dread roar;
Sad was the parting thou mak'st me remember,
My parting with Nancy, ah! Ne'er to meet more!
Fond lovers parting is sweet painful pleasure,
When hope mildly beams on the soft parting hour;
But the dire feeling, "O farewell for ever",
Is anguish unmingled and agony pure.
Wild as the winter now tearing the forest,
Until the last leaf of the summer is flown,
Such is the tempest has shaken my bosom,
Since hope is departed and comfort is gone.
Still as I hail thee, thou gloomy December,
My anguish awakes at thy visage so hoar;
Sad was the parting thou mak'st me remember,
My parting with Nancy, ah! Ne'er to meet more!

¡Te saludo una vez más, oscuro diciembre!
Tu rostro es tan sombrío, el rugido de tus tormentas estremecedor;
triste fue la partida, así me lo recuerdas,
mi despedida de Nancy ¡ay!, para no verla más.
Es dulce mas doloroso el placer, cuando dos amantes se separan,
cuando la esperanza brilla tenue, a la hora de partir;
es temeroso el sentimiento del “adiós, por siempre jamás”,
muestra de angustia desatada y agonía en puro estado.
Bravío como el invierno desgarrando el bosque,
hasta hacer volar la última hoja del verano;
así es la tormenta que ha agitado mi pecho
desde que la esperanza ha partido y el consuelo con ella.
Cuando te saludo, oscuro diciembre,
mis temores aún brotan ante tu helada visión.
Triste fue la partida, así me lo recuerdas,
mi despedida de Nancy ¡ay!, para no verla más.
