The cheerful hunter
Language: English  after the German (Lower Austrian)
A rifle on the back
a gamsbart on the hat
and a lass in the heart,
that's what makes one cheerful!
Even if the devil himself
came to me today,
I'd batter him for good
as if he were an old pheasant.
And if my lassie came,
I would embrace her,
and I would miss nothing,
but I'd miss everything.
