Досить невiльная думка мовчала,
Мов пташка у клiтцi замкнута од свiта,
Пiсня по волi давно не лiтала,
Приборкана тугою, жалем прибита.

Час, моя пiсне, у свiт погуляти,
Розправити крильця, пошарпанi горем,
Час, моя пiсне, по волi буяти,
Послухать, як вiтер заграв понад морем.

Плинь, мой лiсне, як хвиля хибкая, —
Вона не питає, куди вона плине;
Линь, моя пiсне, як чайка прудкая, —
Вона не боїться, що в морi загине.

Грай, моя пiсне, як вiтер сей грає!
Шуми, як той шум, що круг човна вирує!
Дарма що вiдгуку вiтер не має,
А шум на хвилиночку погляд чарує!..
