Vor der Hütte auf der Alpenau
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Vor der Hütte auf der Alpenau,
Wo der Himmel lacht so wunderblau,
Wo die Quellen fließen
Und zu Thale schießen,
Brach ich dir den Strauß
Vergißmeinnicht,
Band dazu die Alpenrosen licht.

Vor der Hütte dort in Abendglut
Sagtest du, wie sehr dein Herz mir gut.
Wo die Blumen sprießen,
Und die Vögel grüßen,
Sproßten Blumen auch in meiner Brust,
Sangen Vögel voller Frühlingslust.

Vor der Hütte auf der Alpenau
Wehen nun die Stürme wild und rauh;
Keine Quellen fließen,
Keine Blumen sprießen;
Abschied nahmen wir vor langer Frist,
Und ich weiß nur, daß es Winter ist.

In front of the chalet, upon the alpine meadow
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
In front of the chalet upon the alpine meadow,
Where the heavens smile so wondrously blue,
Where the water-springs flow
And plunge down to the valley,
There I picked you the bouquet
Of forget-me-nots,
And tied the bright alpine roses to it as well.

In front of the chalet there in the evening glow
You said how much your heart was inclined to me.
Where the flowers sprout,
And the birds greet us,
Flowers burgeoned in my breast as well,
Birds sang, full of the joy of springtime.

In front of the chalet upon the alpine meadow
The storms now blow mightily and roughly;
No water-springs flow,
No flowers sprout;
We took farewell a long time ago,
And I only know that it is winter.
