by Bernhardt Severin Ingemann (1789 - 1862)
Translation by Christian Levin Friedrich Sander (1756 - 1819)

Ønskerne
Language: Danish (Dansk)
Gid jeg var en Morgenvind!
Sagte skulde jeg da svæve
Hist til hendes Leie ind,
Over hendes Lokker bæve,
Kysse hendes Rosenkind,
Blidt opløse Silkebaandet
Under Pigens kydske Barm,
Og forsvinde, elskovsvarm,
Af den Yndige indaandet.

Gid jeg Glædestaaren var,
Som i hendes fromme Øje
Stundom glindser, stille, klar,
Naar hun stirrer mod det Høje!
Ingen Spotter mig da saae;
Men sødtsvimlende jeg skulde
I den ædle Barm nedrulle,
Og i Salighed — forgaae.

Gid jeg var en hellig Tanke,
Som i hendes Sjæl opstaaer,
Naar i Elskovsdrøm hun gaaer,
Naar hun føler Hjertet banke
Ahnende, og længselfuld!
O! da skulde underfuld
Vore Væsner sig forene,
Tvende Draaber i eet Væld,
Samme Tanke, samme Sjæl
I det skjønt-harmonisk Eene.

Die Wünsche
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Danish (Dansk)
Wär' ich doch ein milder West!
Um ihr Lager wollt' ich schweben
wie die Schwalbe um ihr Nest,
leicht auf ihren Locken beben,
feiernd meiner Liebe Fest,
und, in Blumen tief versunken,
an des Mägdleins keuscher Brust
still vergeh'n vor sel'ger Lust,
von der Holden eingetrunken.

Wär' ich doch der Wonnetau,
der im frommen Auge bebet,
wenn es sich auf stiller Au
sanft verklärt gen Himmel hebet!
Fernt die Spötter, mich zu seh'n!
Denn ich will auf ihren Wangen
bald mein edles Ziel erlangen
und vor Seligkeit vergeh'n.

Wär' ich doch die Luftbewegung,
die im Innern ihr entsteht,
wenn sie liebesinnend geht
in des Herzens erster Regung,
unbewusst, woher sie kam.
O, dann sollten wundersam
uns're Wesen sich vereinen,
Tropfen aus demselben Quell
gleich verherrlicht, klar und hell,
in dem hocherhab'nen Einen!
