by Moritz Hartmann (1821 - 1872)
Translation by Adolphe Larmande (b. 1812)

Morgen am Strande
Language: German (Deutsch)
Die Morgenstund am Meeresstrand
hat lieblich mein Gemüt beweget;
sie ist wie eine liebe Hand,
die heilend auf das Herz sich leget.

Der Blick ins Meer ist wie ein Blick
in dunkle Augen, die wir lieben;
das Segel wie ein hold Geschick,
das noch nicht ganz vorbeigetrieben.

Und alles wie ein blühend Grab,
drin stille ruhet jedes Strei ten.
das meine werf' ich auch hinab,
und Friede glänzt aus allen Weiten.

Le matin au bord de la mer
Language: French (Français)  after the German (Deutsch)
Au souffle pur des vastes mers,
aux clartés roses de l'aurore,
oublie en paix tes jours amers,
pauvre âme que l'ennui dévore.

Folles amours, jeune saison,
qui désertez ma sombre rive,
effacez vous à l'horizon
comme la voile fugitive.

Et mon esprit songeant aux cieux,
devant l'immensité profonde,
entend chanter par les flots bleus
l'espoir béni d'un meilleur monde.
