Vieni ai campi con me!... Bagna nel verde La rugiada i miei sandali di seta. De la campagna che il mattin rinverde Vo' coglier tutti i fior.... Vieni con me nei boschi, o mio poeta, Ma non dirmi d'amor!... Una rondin traversa il ciel di rosa, L'umide foglie sembran dïamanti; Brillan gl'insetti nell'erba muscosa, Ringiovanisce il pian; Guarda che luce, che festa, che incanti... Dio non esiste invan!... .... Non parlarmi d'amor.--Di quei fulgori L'anima nostra è un pallido riflesso. Guarda che forza di divini ardori Circonfondente il suol; Che amor possente e che possente amplesso De la terra col sol!... Tu dar non mi potrai quel bacio eterno.-- .... Fatto di debolezza e gelosia, Di fosche nubi e di rose d'inverno, Di febbre e di timor, Dell'infinito innanzi all'armonia, Di', che vale il tuo amor?... Io voglio, io voglio i campi sterminati Ove fremono germi e sboccian fiori, Come snella puledra in mezzo ai prati Io voglio, io voglio andar; Dell'iride vogl'io tutti i colori, Tutti i gorghi del mar!... Komm mit mir in die Felder! . . . Laß im Grünen Mich baden meine seid'nen Schuh' im Thau. Auf Wiesen, die vom Morgenlicht beschienen, Pflück' alle Blumen ich . . . Komm mit mir, mein Poet, in Wald und Au, Doch nicht von Liebe sprich! . . . Es ziehen Schwalben durch den ros'gen Himmel, Das feuchte Laub wie Diamanten glüht; Im Grase blitzt der Käfer bunt Gewimmel, Verjüngt ist rings das Land; Sieh, wie's [von]1 Licht und [wonn'gem]2 Zauber [sprüht]3 . . . Man spürt die Gotteshand! . . . Doch sprich von Liebe nicht. - Von solchem Glanze Ist uns're Kraft ein blasser Wiederschein. Sieh, wie der Strahl gleich einem [Siegerkranze]4 Den Boden rings umflicht, [Wie mächtig heiß umarmt der Sonnenschein Die blüh'nde Erde nicht!]5 . . . Solch ew'gen Kuß kannst du mir doch nicht geben - . . Den Eifersucht und Schwäche niemals flieh'n; Dem blasse Rosen, Wolken beut das Leben, Ein fiebernd, angstvoll Bild. In der Unendlichkeiten Harmonien Sag', was dein Lieben gilt? . . . Ich sehne mich nach endlos weiten Heiden, Wo Keim' und Blüthen sprossen aus dem Grün; Als rasches Füllen springen auf den Weiden Möcht' ich voll Uebermuth. Ich will des Regenbogens Farbenglüh'n Und aller Meere Fluth. Die Zweige will ich knicken und die Stengel, Zur Freiheit auf den Bergen zieht's mich hin; Und auf den Fels, der ragt ins Reich der Engel, Setz' ich den Fuß voll Lust Und ruh' im Sonnenschein wie eine Sultanin An eines Königs Brust! . . .
