Kaum, daß ein Licht den Pfad erhellt,
Ob in der weiten [Sommerwelt]¹
Noch eine Seele wacht?
Die Blumen duften süß und schwer,
Und fern und leise klingt das Meer.

Wo bist du, die ich suche?

Ob deine Seele, du Reine,
Der Stern am dunkeln Himmel ist,
Der meine trunknen Augen küßt,
Meine, [nur]² meine?

So tief und leuchtend glüht der Schein,
Das kann nur deine Seele sein,
Nur deine!

amb prou feines un llum il·lumina el camí,
vetlla encara alguna ànima
en la vasta nit d’estiu?
Les flors fan una dolça i forta flaire,
i llunyà i suaument ressona el mar.

On ets tu, tu a qui cerco?

És la teva ànima, la pura,
l’estrella a l’obscur cel,
la que besa els meus ebris ulls,
meva, només meva?

L’esclat resplendeix tan profund i lluminós,
només pot ser la teva ànima,
només la teva!
