Ich bin wie der Regen, der erquickt und zerstört;
Nur die Erde, die alte, weiß wie ich bin;

Voice of my homeland
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
I am like the earth: cold and warm,
I am like the sky: full of joy, full of woe,
I am like the rain that refreshes and destroys;
I am the love that condemns and answers supplications.
What do people know of themselves and of me?
In part they are similar to flowers, in part to animals.
Only the earth, the old earth, knows what I am like;
I love and strive and do not die off.
I am like the earth, the earth is wondrously wide[,]
I am like the sky, the sky harbours eternity,
I am like the rain that refreshes and pulverizes,
I am the love that remains always and forever.
