Ruft ihn, soll er nicht dahinten bleiben! - Indes fällt ein rascher Sommerregen; Eh man hundert zählt, ist er vorüber; Fast zu kurz, den heißen Staub zu löschen; Doch auch diese Letzung ist willkommen. Kühlung füllt und Wohlgeruch den weiten Platz und an den Häusern ringsum öffnet Sich ein Blumenfenster um das andre. Endlich kommt der junge Mann. Geschwinde! Eingestiegen! - Und fort rollt der Wagen. Aber sehet, auf dem nassen Pflaster Vor dem Posthaus, wo er stillgehalten, Lässt er einen trocknen Fleck zurücke, Lang und breit, sogar die Räder sieht man Angezeigt und wo die Pferde standen. Aber dort in jenem hübschen Hause, Drin der Jüngling sich so lang verweilte, Steht ein Mädchen hinterm Fensterladen, Blicket auf die weiß gelassne Stelle, Hält ihr Tüchlein vors Gesicht und weinet. Mag es ihr so ernst sein? Ohne Zweifel; Doch der Jammer wird nicht lange währen: Mädchenaugen, wisst ihr, trocknen hurtig, Und eh auf dem Markt die Steine wieder Alle hell geworden von der Sonne, Könnet ihr den Wildfang lachen hören.
