In die Ferne möcht' ich fliehen,
Doch dein Blick hält mich zurück; 
Laß die Andren rastlos ziehen, 
Wo ich liebe, wohnt mein Glück. 

Laß die Zeit sich dreh'n im Kreise, --
Wenn auch Lenz und Sommer flieht, 
Immer tönt die alte Weise, 
Immer klingt das eine Lied: 

Eine Seel' umschlingt die Andre, 
Jede Stund' ist ewig Glück! 
Spricht das Leben: "Wandre wandre!"
Fleht die Liebe: "Bleib zurück!"

The thrall of love

I would like to flee into the distance,
But your gaze holds me back;
Let the others roam restlessly,
Where I love, there lives my happiness.

Let time turn in a circle, --
Even if spring and summer pass,
Ever sounds the olds refrain,
Ever rings out a single song:

One soul embraces the other,
Every hour is eternal happiness!
If life speaks:  "Go wandering! Go wandering!"
Love pleads: "Remain behind!"
