Vperedi ich idët Volk os'moj, šersti beloj; A tainstvennyj chod Zaključaet devjatyj. S okrovavlennoj pjatoj On za nimi idët i chromaet. Ich ničto ne pugaet. Na selo li im put', Pës na nich i ne laet; A mužik i dochnut', Vidja ich, ne posmeet: On ot strachu bledneet I čitaet tichon'ko molitvu. Volki cerkov' obchodjat Ostorožno krugom, V dvor popovskij zachodjat I ševeljat chvostom, Bliz korčmy vodjat uchom I vnimajut vsem sluchom, Ne vedutsja l' tam grešnye reči? Ich glaza slovno sveči, Zuby šila ostrej. Ty trinadcat' kartečej Koz'ej šerst'ju zabej I streljaj po nim smelo, Prežde ruchnet volk belyj, A za nim upadut i drugie. Na sele ž, kogda spjaščich Vsech razbudit petuch, Ty uvidiš' ležaščich Devjat' mërtvych staruch. Vperedi ich sedaja, Pozadi ich chromaja, Vse v krovi… s nami sila Gospodnja!
