by Joannes Reddingius (1873 - 1944)

Regen, regen
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
Regen, regen,
waai mij tegen
op de paarse zomerhei,
op de golvend-wijde landen,
heet door 't laaiend zonnebranden,
wilde regen, kom tot mij.

'k Hoor het straffe,
scherpe blaffen
van den wolfshond, stadig-aan,
heuvel-af zie 'k schapen glijden,
die den verren stal verbeiden,
hoor ze blaten, zie ze gaan!

De oude herder
drijft ze verder,
daar de zeewind niet meer luwt.
Uit de donkre donderkoppen
zijgt een stroom van zware droppen,
door den windstorm voortgestuwd.

Regen, regen,
waai mij tegen,
bloeiend wacht de heide en ik,
laat het zingen van uw koren
wereld-ver den zwerver hooren,
val maar, zing maar, regen tik!
