Beim Schlafengehen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Ännchen und Liesel sind lange im Bett,
Leise! ganz leise! sie schlafen schon beide.
Nun, mein Bübchen, artig und nett,
Ärmchen und Beinchen husch! aus dem Kleide,
und behende ins Hemdchen hinein!
Schlafe nun ein, schlafe nun ein!
Sterne scheinen ins Kämmerlein,
und in der Nacht,
leise und sacht,
kommen drei strahlende Engelein,
bringen vom Himmel ein goldenes Krönchen
für mein liebes Muttersöhnchen,
bringen vom Himmel auch goldene Schuh
und ein fein seidenes Höschen dazu.
Trägst du es morgen im Sonnenschein,
werden die Kätzchen neidisch sein!
Nun gute Nacht!
Stille, dass keines wieder erwacht!
Schnell noch ein Küsschen vom Mütterlein!
Schlafe nun ein, schlafe nun ein!

At bedtime
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Annie and Lizzie have long been in bed,
Quiet! be very quiet! they are both already sleeping.
Now, my little lad, be well-behaved and nice,
Whish! your little arms and legs out of your clothes,
and quickly into your nightshirt!
Go to sleep now, go to sleep now!
The stars are shining into your chamber,
And in the night,
quietly and gently,
three shining little angels shall come,
and shall bring a little gold crown from Heaven
for mother’s dear little boy,
from Heaven they shall also bring golden shoes
and a fine silk hose as well.
When you wear it tomorrow in the sunshine,
the little kittens shall be envious!
Now good night!
Quiet, so that none of them awakes again!
Quickly yet a little kiss from your mother!
Go to sleep now, go to sleep now!
