Heimweh
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations: ENG FRE
Brennt so heiß die fremde Sonne,
drückt so schwül die fremde Luft,
will dahin, wohin mich meine
und der Liebsten Sehnsucht ruft!
Bleib, o bleib im fremden Lande,
ruhen lass den Wanderstab!
Deine Heimath ist verödet
die Geliebte deckt das Grab.
Spricht sie wahr, die Geisterstimme
sank ins Grab mein süßes Lieb,
o so ist ihr Grab die Heimath
die den Heimwehvollen blieb!
Und er flog mit seinem Heimweh
der Geliebten Grabe zu,
und in seiner neuen Heimath
fand er die ersehnte Ruh'!

Homesickness
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The foreign sun burns so hotly,
The foreign air presses down so humidly,
I wish to go where my
And my beloved's yearning calls me!
Stay, oh stay in the foreign land,
Let your wandering staff lie idle!
Your homeland is made desolate,
Your beloved is covered over in her grave.
If the ghostly voice speaks truly,
If my sweet love has sunk into her grave,
Oh, then her grave is the [only] homeland
Remaining to one filled with homesickness!
And with his homesickness he flew
Toward his beloved's grave,
And in his new homeland
He found the yearned-for peace!
