Brennt so heiß die fremde Sonne,
drückt so schwül die fremde Luft,
will dahin, wohin mich meine 
und der Liebsten Sehnsucht ruft!

Bleib, o bleib im fremden Lande,
ruhen lass den Wanderstab!
Deine Heimath ist verödet
die Geliebte deckt das Grab.

Spricht sie wahr, die Geisterstimme 
sank ins Grab mein süßes Lieb,
o so ist ihr Grab die Heimath
die den Heimwehvollen blieb!

Und er flog mit seinem Heimweh 
der Geliebten Grabe zu,
und in seiner neuen Heimath 
fand er die ersehnte Ruh'!

L'air étranger est si étouffant.
Je veux aller là où mon désir
Et celui de l'être aimé m'appellent.

Reste, oh reste dans un pays étranger,
Laisse reposer ton bâton de marche !
Ta patrie est désolée,
La tombe recouvre ta bien-aimée.

Si la voix fantomatique dit vrai,
Si mon doux amour est dans sa tombe.
Oh, alors sa tombe est la seule patrie
Qui reste pour celui qui a le mal du pays.

Et avec son mal du pays, il s'envola
Vers la tombe de sa bien-aimée.
Et dans sa nouvelle patrie
Il trouva la paix tant désirée.
