Ach, wie so wonnig, durch Wälder und Felder zu streifen,
Glänzt dort uns sonnig die leuchtende, lockende Welt!
Freuden und Leiden, die Früchte des Lebens sie reifen
Herrlich hinieden vom Hauche des Frühlings geschwellt!
Hinaus, hinaus
Aus dem engen, dem dumpfigen Haus
In den leuchtenden Frühling hinaus!
Christ ist erstanden, die Erde sie gab ihn uns wieder,
Ringsum verschwanden die Klagen der Trauer und Qual.
So von den Todten, ein Heiland der Blüthen und Lieder
Steigt aus dem Boden der Frühling mit sonnigem Strahl!
Hinaus, hinaus
Aus der engen, der dumpfigen Pein
In den leuchtenden Frühling hinein!
Brüder, nun weiter, und laßt uns in Lieb' und in Scherzen
Jubelnd und heiter durchwandern die liebliche Pracht.
Lieder und Rosen laßt schmücken den Hut und die Herzen,
Küssen und kosen, was zum Küssen und Kosen gemacht!
Hinaus, hinaus,
Wie bald ist die Mailust doch aus,
In den leuchtenden Frühling hinaus!

Ah, how so lovely it is to ramble through woods and fields,
There the radiant, enticing world shines sunnily for us!
Joys and sorrows, the fruits of life, they ripen
Gloriously down here, swelled by the breath of spring!
Out, out
Of the confining, the musty house
Out into the radiant springtime!
Christ has risen, the earth gave Him back to us,
Round about the laments of sorrow and agony disappeared.
Thus from the dead, Springtime, a saviour of blossoms
And songs, rises from the ground with a sunny beam!
Out, out
Of the confining, the musty torment
Out into the radiant springtime!
Brethren, onward now, and let us wander joyfully and merrily
Through the lovely splendour in love and in jesting.
Let songs and roses adorn our hats and our hearts,
Let us kiss and caress that which is made for kissing and caressing!
Out, out
For how soon the joy of May is over,
Out into the radiant springtime!
