Das große Karussell
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG FRE
Im Himmel ist ein Karussell,
das dreht sich Tag und Nacht.
Es dreht sich wie im Traum so schnell,
wir sehn es nicht, es ist zu hell
aus lauter Licht gemacht;
still, mein Wildfang, gib acht!
Gib acht, es dreht die Sterne, du,
im ganzen Himmelsraum.
Es dreht die Sterne ohne Ruh
und macht Musik, Musik dazu,
so fein, wir hören's kaum;
wir hören's nur im Traum.
Im Traum, da hören wir's von fern,
von fern im Himmel hell.
Drum träumt mein Wildfang gar so gern,
wir drehn uns mit auf einem Stern;
es geht uns nicht zu schnell,
das große Karussell.

The great carousel
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
In the sky is a carousel
which turns day and night.
It turns so fast, as in [a] dream -
we do not see it, it is too bright,
made of pure light;
quiet, my restless child, give heed!
Give heed, it turns the stars, [and] you,
in the entire [expanse] of space.
It turns the stars without rest
and makes music, too,
so fine, we do not hear it;
we hear it only in dreams.
In dreams, there we hear it from afar,
from afar in the bright sky.
Thus my restless child dreams so well,
we turn together upon a star;
it [never] goes too fast [for] us,
the great carousel.
