Ringsum erschallt in Wald und Flur
Viel fernes Glockenklingen,
Die Winde wehen heimlich nur,
Und leis' die Vöglein singen.
Und Orgelklang und Chorgesang
Erbaulich zieht das Tal entlang.

Wie bin ich so allein im Haus,
In weiten, stillen Räumen!
Zum Feste zogen alle aus,
Hier kann ich heimlich träumen.
Dort jauchzen sie in Lust und Scherz,
Und mir wird weich und weh um's Herz.

Horch! horch, was ertönt Schalmeienklang,
Was zieht so froh in's Weite?
Zur Kirche wallt mit hellem Sang 
Ein selig Brautgeleite.
Und ich, ich bin so gar allein!
Ach, Einer dürfte bei mir sein!

Tot a l’entorn, als boscos i als camps ressona
molt llunyà un repicar de campanes,
els vents bufen tan sols furtivament,
i els ocellets canten fluixet.
I el so de l’orgue i els cants del cor,
edificants, s’estenen al llarg de la vall.

Que solitari estic a la casa,
en les àmplies, silencioses estances!
Tots han anat a la festa,
aquí puc somiar secretament.
Allà tots es diverteixen amb goig i alegria,
i el meu cor esdevé sensible i adolorit.

Escolteu! Escolteu, què és aquest so de xeremies,
que és aquesta alegre corrua que passa cap al lluny?
Vers l’església avança amb forts cants
el joiós seguici d’una núvia.
I jo, jo estic completament sol!
Ai, si tan sols algú pogués estar amb mi!
