Ringsum erschallt in Wald und Flur
Viel fernes Glockenklingen,
Die Winde wehen heimlich nur,
Und leis' die Vöglein singen.
Und Orgelklang und Chorgesang
Erbaulich zieht das Tal entlang.

Wie bin ich so allein im Haus,
In weiten, stillen Räumen!
Zum Feste zogen alle aus,
Hier kann ich heimlich träumen.
Dort jauchzen sie in Lust und Scherz,
Und mir wird weich und weh um's Herz.

Horch! horch, was ertönt Schalmeienklang,
Was zieht so froh in's Weite?
Zur Kirche wallt mit hellem Sang 
Ein selig Brautgeleite.
Und ich, ich bin so gar allein!
Ach, Einer dürfte bei mir sein!

Rondom weerklinkt in bos en veld
Van ver veel klokkenluiden,
De wind komt heim’lijk aangesneld
En zacht hoor ‘k vogelgeluiden.
En orgelklank en zang in koor
Trekt stichtelijk het dal nu door.
 
Wat voel ik mij alleen in ‘t huis,
Dit grote onderkomen!
Naar ’t feest toe gingen allen uit,
Ik kan hier stil slechts dromen.
Ginds juichen zij met groot plezier,
En ik kan enkel treuren hier.
 
Hoor! Hoor, daar weerklinkt schalmeienklank,
Wat gaat daarginds zo blijde?
Ter kerke trekt met held’re zang
Een heerlijk bruidsgeleide.
Maar ik, ik ben zo erg alleen!
Ach, was er één maar om mij heen!
