Cidli, jij schreit zacht en ik sluimer veilig,
Waar in zanden de weg al kronk'lend wegsluipt;
Ook als stille nacht hem met schaduw afdekt,
Sluim'r ik toch veilig.

Waar de weg ophoudt, waar een stroom tot zee wordt,
Glijd ik over de stroom, die zachter opzwelt;
Want die mij als gids dient, de god gebood  't  hem.
Ween maar niet, Cidli!
