possibly by Anacreon (c582BCE - c485BCE)
Translation by Jean-Antoine de Baïf (1532 - 1589)

Le larron Amour
Language: French (Français)  after the Greek (Ελληνικά)
Le larron Amour
Déroboit un jour
Le miel aux ruchettes
Des blondes avettes,
Qui, leurs piquans1 droits,
En ses tendres doigts,
Aigrement ficherent.
Ses doigts s'en enflerent :
A ses mains, l'enfant,
Grande douleur sent :
Dépit2 s'en courrouce ;
La terre repousse,
Et, d'un léger saut,
Il s'élance en haut,
Et vole à sa mere,
La belle Cythere :
Avec triste pleur,
Montre sa douleur,
Et faite sa plainte ;

Vois, dit-il, l'atteinte
Qu'une mouche fait ;
Vois combien méfait
Une bestelette
Qui, si mingrelette,
Fait un mal si grand !

De mesme il t'en prend :
(Vénus lui vint dire,
Se prenant à rire)
Bien qu'enfantelet
Tu sois mingrelet,
Tu ne vaux pas mieux :
Vois quelle blessure
Tu fais qu'on endure
En terre & aux cieux !
