by Paul Heyse (1830 - 1914)

Hochsommer
Language: German (Deutsch)
Im Föhrenwald wie schwüle!
Kein Vogel singt im Feld.
Das Reh aus grünen Schatten
Sieht träumend in die Welt.

Am Waldrand fährt ein Wäglein,
Hat eben Raum für Zwei.
Der Kutscher, das Pferd und die Peitsche
Nicken schläfrig alle drei.

Ein altes verstaubtes Leder
Ist über den Sitz gespannt,
Darunter ducken zwei Leutchen
Geschützt vorm Sonnenbrand.

Sie schaun sich an verstohlen
Und fragen dem Schlaf nichts nach.
Sie flüstern und lachen und kosen -
Ei sage, was hält sie wach?
