In deine Reimart hoff ich mich zu finden,
Das Wiederholen soll mir auch gefallen,
Erst werd ich Sinn, sodann auch Worte finden;
Zum zweitenmal soll mir kein Klang erschallen,
Er müßte denn besondern Sinn begründen,
Wie du's vermagst, Begünstigter vor allen!

Denn wie ein Funke fähig, zu entzünden
Die Kaiserstadt, wenn Flammen grimmig wallen,
Sich winderzeugend glühn von eignen Winden,
Er, schon erloschen, schwand zu Sternenhallen:
So schlang's von dir sich fort mit ew'gen Gluten,
Ein deutsches Herz von frischem zu ermuten.

Zugemeßne Rhythmen reizen freilich,
Das Talent erfreut sich wohl darin,
Doch wie schnelle widern sie abscheulich,
Hohle Masken ohne Blut und Sinn.
Selbst der Geist erscheint sich nicht erfreulich,
Wenn er nicht, auf neue Form bedacht,
Jener toten Form ein Ende macht.

En la teva manera de rimar espero avenir-me,
la repetició m’hauria també d’agradar,
primer trobaré el sentit i després també les paraules;
cap to em ressonarà una segona vegada,
a menys que estableixi un sentit especial,
tal com tu ets capaç de fer, tu privilegiat entre tots!

Car com una espurna pot encendre
la ciutat imperial, quan les furioses flames onegen,
abrusant-se del propi vent que generen,
ell, ja extingit, desaparegué vers les estances dels estels:
així, amb brases eternes, es va esmunyir lluny de tu,
per encoratjar de nou un cor alemany.

Els ritmes mesurats encisen certament,
el talent ben bé s’hi delecta,
però prest repugnen abominables,
vàcues màscares privades de sang i de sentit.
Fins i tot l’esperit no sembla pas estar content,
si, pensant en noves formes,
no pot posar fi a aquella forma morta.
