Frühlingslied
Wie betend seine Häupter hebt;
Die Amsel ruft, der Kuckuck schreit:
Grüß Gott, du schöne Frühlingszeit!
Die Sonne bricht aus goldnen Thoren,
Durch junges Laub die Winde wehn;
Mein Herz fühlt sich wie neugeboren,
Will sich die grüne Welt besehn:
So fahret aus denn, Gram und Leid!
Grüß Gott, du schöne Frühlingszeit!

Spring song
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
When the birdlets build their nests,
When the leaves burgeon on the trees
And morning dew and pollen
Sparkle upon the richly flowered meadows,
Then far and wide upon the earth there sounds:
God greet you, you lovely springtime!
The mountains greet [us] from out of the blue scent,
A cloudlet hovers above [them],
The dark forest at their feet
Lifts its tree-tops as if in prayer;
The blackbird calls, the cuckoo cries:
God greet you, you lovely springtime!
The sun breaks forth from its golden gates,
The winds blow through the young foliage;
My heart feels as if new-born,
It wishes to look upon the green world:
Leave me then, grief and sorrow!
God greet you, you lovely springtime!
