Ich weiß nicht, was mir hier gefällt, In dieser engen, kleinen Welt Mit holdem Zauberhand mich hält. Vergess' ich doch, vergess' ich gern, Wie seltsam mich das Schicksal leitet; Und ach, ich fühle, nah und fern Ist mir noch manches zubereitet. O wäre doch das rechte Maß getroffen! Was bleibt mir nun, als, eingehüllt, Von holder Lebenskraft erfüllt, In stiller Gegenwart die Zukunft zu erhoffen!
