Schweife und pfeife um Distel und Dorn,
Lisple im Laube und raschle im Ried,
Surre und summe und sause dein Lied,
Meines Trautliebchens geflüstertes Wort
Fuchtelst und fauchest du nimmer doch fort.

Flimmernde Sterne und Sonne und Mond,
Die ihr hoch oben am Himmel da wohnt,
Schimmern und Scheinen ist all euer Lauf,
Bald geht ihr unter und bald geht ihr auf,
Aber wie Liebchens holdselig Gesicht
Leuchtet und lächelt doch keiner mir nicht.

Bäume dich, Welle, und wirble den Schaum,
Schwindest doch hin, ein zerfließender Traum;
Alles verrinnet in Wandel und Fluß,
Nur meines Mägdeleins feurigen Kuß
Nehme ich, mußt' es der letzte denn sein,
Mit in das ewige Leben hinein!
