Frühlingsstille ‑‑ Bäume schwanken
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Frühlingsstille -- Bäume schwanken
Blüthenschwer,
Mädchen wandelt in Gedanken
Still einher.
Seht wie träumerisch das helle
Auge schaut,
Leise flüsternd spricht die Quelle:
"Sie ist Braut."
Welch ein Schwirren, welch' ein Fliegen
In der Luft,
Aufwärts schwebt, dem Kelch entstiegen,
Blüthenduft.
Käfer summt, es zirpt die Grille,
Bächlein rauscht,
Plötzlich steht das Mädchen stille,
Steht und lauscht.
Schnell hat sie im dunklen Flieder
Sich versteckt,
Denn es eilt ein Mann hernieder,
Den sie neckt.
Knabe, mit den blonden Locken,
Merkt den Scherz,
Und nun fliegt er froh erschrocken
Ihr an's Herz.
Wißt Ihr, wer in Frühlingsstille
Zu ihr kam?
Käfer summt, es zirpt die Grille:
"Bräutigam."

Springtime hush ‑‑ trees sway
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Springtime hush -- trees sway,
heavily laden with blossoms,
Lost in thought, a maiden comes wandering
Along silently.
See how dreamily her bright
Eyes gaze about,
The water-spring speaks with a quiet whisper:
"She is betrothed."
What a whirring, what a flying there is
In the air;
Arisen from the calyces wafts upwards
The scent of blossoms.
The beetle hums, the cricket chirps,
The brooklet rushes along;
Suddenly the maiden stands still,
Stands and listens.
Quickly she conceals herself
In the dark lilac,
For a man is hurrying hither,
A man whom she is teasing.
The lad with the blond curls
Notices the jest,
And now, happily startled, he flies
To her heart.
Do you know who came to her
In the springtime hush?
The beetle hums, the cricket chirps:
"Her betrothed."
