Aus Leides Trunkenheit
Emporgetaumelt seh ich
Durch Tränen zitternd die erneute Welt.
Schon duftet Sommer an den Wäldern hin -
O Abende voll grünem Schmelz, Sternhimmel du,
Wie sehnlich überfüllt ihr mir das Herz!

Freunde, lebt ihr noch? Wein, glühst du noch?
Bist du noch mein, verzauberte Welt,
Die ich durch Tränen nur und von ferne
Wandeln sehe, wo lang ich nur Leere sah?
Hebt noch einmal der alte Reigen an,
Zieht den Gestorbnen noch einmal der süße 
Sommerzauber zurück?
Noch mißtraut dem Wunder die Seele,
Noch ist Sommer und Wald nicht wieder mein.
Aber heiliger glühn und klarer die Sterne,
Schweigend horch ich hinan, ihr Weltgeläut
Tönt mir ehern das Lied meines Schicksals, 
Und mein Herz tönt zagenden Widerhall.

Despertar de la desesperació

Tentinejant per damunt
de l’embriaguesa del sofriment veig,
tremolant, a través de llàgrimes, el món renovat.
Ja flaireja l’estiu pels boscos –
Oh capvespres plens d’acolorit verd, oh tu, cel estrellat,
que ardentment m’ompliu el cor!

Amics, sou vius encara? Vi, fulgures encara?
Ets meu encara, tu, món encantat,
que jo, a través de llàgrimes, veig de lluny transformar-se,
allà on durant molt temps hi veia tan sols buidor?
Comença de nou la vella dansa en rodona,
fa retornar de nou els morts
el dolç encís de l’estiu?
La meva ànima es malfia encara del miracle,
l’estiu i el bosc encara tornen a ser meus.
Però més sagrades i clares brillen les estrelles,
silent, escolto cap amunt, llur còsmic repic,
insolent, fa sonar per a mi la cançó del meu destí,
i el meu cor fa sonar un eco vacil·lant.
