Und auf goldgesäumtem Flügel
Lächelnd nach der Höhe schwebst,
Hängt sich meiner Seele Sehnen
Weinend an dein weißes Kleid,
Daß du mich aus Noth und Thränen
Trügst in ew'ge Herrlichkeit!

And with gold-bordered pinions
Smilingly float up to the heights,
The yearning of my soul attaches
Itself, weeping, to your white garment,
So that out of misery and tears
You might carry me to eternal glory!
