Abend

Evening
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Like a line of dark-blue silence
the horizon lies in the distance, bordered by soft red.
The treetops sway quietly as if in the enchantment of a roundelay,
the light is as in fairy-tales, soft and lost in azure dreams.
The sky is still light, one hardly sees the stars as yet,
the air is cool and soft as the hand of a woman
and sweet melody comes from the most distant distance:
music of a shawm, magical, unfamiliar.
