Die Nonnen

Helle Silberglocken schwingen
durch den kühlen Tempelhain,
junge heiße Seelen singen
in die stille Nacht hinein.
"O süße Mutter des Einen,
um den wir beten und weinen,
Maria, nimm dich unser gnädig an!"

Wieder tönt das Liebeszagen
voll unsäglich bangem Laut,
zitternd wie das ängstige Klagen
einer sterbenden Braut
"O süßer Sohn der Einen,
wir beten zu dir und weinen,
Christ, unser Herr, hör' deiner Mägde Flehn!"

Sieh, und aus dem goldnen Rahmen
tritt der Heiland nun herfür,
daß er ihre Stirn berühr',
und die Lippen hauchen Amen!
Tiefer noch beugen die Reinen
das Knie und lächeln und weinen -
in roten Herzen blüht ein Wunder auf.

Sonores campanes d’argent toquen
a través del fred santuari del bosc,
joves ànimes ardents canten
en la nit silenciosa.
“Oh dolça mare de l’Únic,
per el que preguem i plorem,
Maria, acull-nos en la teva gràcia!”

De nou ressona el lament amorós,
ple d’una indicible angoixa,
tremolant, com el plany temorós
d’una núvia morent.
“Oh dolç fill de l’Únic,
a tu preguem i plorem,
Crist, Nostre Senyor, escolta la súplica de la teva serva!”

I esguarda, del marc d’or
surt ara el Salvador
per tocar llur front,
i els llavis alenen Amén!
Encara més s’agenollen les castes
i somriuen i ploren –
als cors vermells s’esbadella un miracle.
