  Wie durch Sturm und Wind
Scheu ein Bettelkind 
Frühe Veilchen bringt im Merzen, 
  Kommt ein schichtes Lied, 
Und wie süß doch zieht 
Gleich sein Duft in alle Herzen! 

  Wie am Waldesrand,
Ob dem grünen Land
Froh im Lenz die Vögel singen,
  Kommt ein frischer Klang,
Muß mit keckem Drang 
Allen Herzen Freude bringen!

  As, passing through storm and wind,
A begging child shyly
Brings early violets in March,
  There comes a simple song,
And yet how sweetly its scent
Immediately drifts into every heart!

  As at the edge of the woods,
Above the green countryside,
The birds sing joyfully in springtime,
  There comes a fresh sound,
Which must, with bold urging
Bring joy to every heart!
