Pflücket Rosen, um das Haar
Schön damit zu kränzen,
Reihe dich, o junge Schar,
Dann zu frohen Tänzen!

Nehmt die Leier von der Wand
Kränzet sie und gebet
Sie dem Sänger in die Hand,
Der sie uns belebet.

Freuet euch, so lang der Mai
Und der Sommer währet;
Nur zu bald sind sie vorbei,
Und der Winter kehret.

Lange müsst ihr dann aufs neu
Bei der Lampe sitzen,
Und bei ew'gem Einerlei
Saurer Arbeit schwitzen.

R. Schumann sets stanzas 1, 3-4, 1

Cançó de maig
Language: Catalan (Català)  after the German (Deutsch)
Colliu roses per coronar bellament
els vostres cabells,
poseu-vos en filera, oh jove colla,
per a una alegre dansa!

Despengeu la lira de la paret,
coroneu-la i poseu-la
a les mans del cantaire
que la farà revifar per a nosaltres.

Alegreu-vos mentre el maig
i l’estiu durin;
ben aviat hauran passat
i tornarà l’hivern.

Llavors de nou haureu
de seure al costat de la llàntia
i, amb una eterna monotonia,
suar per un penós treball.
