Der 24te April 1854
Language: German (Deutsch)
Dieses Wogen auf den Straßen,
Dieses Wogen überall,
Und die froh bewegten Massen
Und der lauten Freude Schall!
Sprich es aus was es verkündet,
Lautes Echo ruf' es nach,
Berg' und Flur und Thal und Kluft,
Ruft es tausendstimmig nach.
Hoch der Glocke heil'ge Klänge
Und der Orgel Harmonie
Und der Chöre Festgesänge
In erhabner Melodie --
Sie verkünden uns mit Wonne,
Sie verkünden es uns laut:
Unser Kaiser führt zur Kirche
Seine auserwählte Braut.
Gieß' o Himmel allen Segen
Auf das hohe Kaiserpaar,
Und steh' beÿ auf allen Wegen
Seiner treuen Völkerschaar.

The 24th of April 1854
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
This surging upon the streets,
This surging everywhere,
And the joyfully agitated throngs
And the sound of loud joy!
Articulate that which it proclaims,
Loud echo, call it out;
Mountain and meadow and valley and chasm,
Call it out with a thousand voices.
Hail the holy ringing of the bell
And the harmony of the organ
And the festive singing of the choir
In lofty melody --
They proclaim to us with joy,
They proclaim it loudly to us:
Our Emperor is leading to church
His chosen bride.
Shower, oh Heaven, all your blessings
Upon the exalted Imperial couple,
And upon all [their] pathways care for
Their faithful multitude of subjects.
