Morgenwanderung im Mondschein
Language: German (Deutsch)
Wenn das Mondenlicht sanft
Überm Berge noch steht,
Und kühl schon durch die Wipfel
Der Morgenhauch geht,
O wie wandert sich's traut
Durch das dunkle, stille Thal,
O wie fliehen in die Weite
Alle Sorgen zumal!
Sieh nur hie und da taucht
Aus dem Dunkel ein Schein,
Als blickten Gottes Augen
Holdfreundlich darein.
Und nun wieder dort liegt's,
-- O du süßes, süßes Bild! --
Überm Grunde licht gebreitet
Fast wie Sonnenschein mild!
Liebe Seele, wie leicht,
O wie leicht wird's dir da,
Vergessen nun ist Alles,
Was Leids dir geschah!
Und was künftighin kommt,
Laß dich's nimmer fechten an,
Gott im Himmel wird's versehen, --
Ziehe froh deine Bahn!

Morning ramble in the moonlight
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
When the moonlight is still shining
Gently upon the mountain,
And already through the treetops
A cool breath of morning passes,
Oh, how lovely it is to walk
Through the dark, silent valley,
Oh, how all anxieties
Flee into the distance!
See, only here and there a radiance
Rises from out of the darkness,
As if God's eyes were gazing
Beautifully, amiably downward.
And now again it lies there,
-- Oh, you sweet, sweet image! --
Brightly spread over the ground
Almost like gentle sunshine!
Dear soul, how at ease,
Oh, how at ease do you feel there,
Everything is now forgotten
Of past grievances!
And whatever may come in future,
Never let it assail you,
God in Heaven shall look after it, --
You simply travel your pathway happily.
