Die Verlassene
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
das Bächlein im Tale das fließet so hell;
da fielen zwei Sterne vom Himmel herab;
dieweil ich so treulich geliebet dich hab';

The forsaken woman
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The clouds in the sky, they fly so rapidly,
The brooklet in the valley, it flows so brightly;
I would like to wander with it from country to country;
My beloved has gone away, and I am alone!
In sorrowing and weeping I pass the time,
I am so forsaken, to whom may I lament my misery?
I have nothing left in the world, nothing belongs to me,
I only have two blue eyes with which I can weep.
As he took farewell and gave me a little flower,
Two stars fell from the heavens;
They sank deep under the sea:
I seek two eyes and can no longer find them!
I must now secretly bear my woe and my suffering,
Ah, darling, my darling, how far away you are!
The little flower is wilted, the grass has dried up,
And my blue eyes are wet with weeping.
Ah darling, I beg you from the bottom of my heart,
Return in faithfulness and heal me!
I can no longer bear my suffering and my woe,
The little flower is wilted, beloved, adieu!
And when someday you return, I shall be lying in my grave,
Because I have loved you so faithfully;
You shall pick a blue flower and search all around,
But you shall nevermore see my blue eyes.
