Translation by Georg Friedrich Daumer (1800 - 1875)

Schön, wie Thirza, bist du
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Hebrew (עברית)
Schön, wie Thirza, bist du,
wonnevollen Anblicks,
wie die Pracht Jerusalems
und wie kriegerische
Heldenheere furchtbar.
Wende, weh, sie töten,
wende deine Blicke,
ende meinem Herzen
diesen Zauberbann!

Aufgelöst in Sehnsucht,
nimmermehr begnügter,
schmacht' ich hin und sterbe,
sterb' an einem Glücke,
das die Brust, die schwache,
menschliche, nicht fassen,
nicht ertragen kann.

Wende, weh, sie töten,
wende deine Blicke,
ende meinem Herzen
diesen Zauberbann!
