by Mirzə Şəfi Vazeh (1794 - 1852)
Translation by Friedrich Martin von Bodenstedt (1819 - 1892)

Es sucht der echte Weise
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Azerbaijani (Azərbaycan dili)
Es sucht der echte Weise,
Daß er das Rechte finde:
Jung wird er nicht zum Greife,
Alt wird er nicht zum Kinde!

Der Winter treibt keine Blüte,
Der Sommer treibt kein Eis --
Was früh dein Herz durchglühte,
Das ziemt dir nicht als Greis!

Jung sich enthaltsam preisen,
Alt toll von Sinnen sein,
Wird nie des wahren Weisen
Rat und Beginnen sein!

K. Reinecke sets stanzas 2-3 in (at least) one setting - see below for more information
