Des Edelfalk sein Töchterlein
Saß hoch auf grüner Linde,
In Thale sang Frau Nachtigall
Das Lied vom "Grafenkinde":
"Viel Freier kamen von nah und fern,
"Doch keinem war es gewogen,
"Es wollte den jungen König han,
"Der kam aus dem Krieg gezogen . . ."
"Will ich dir's einmal sagen,

The noble falcon's little daughter
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The noble falcon's little daughter
Sat high upon the green linden tree,
In the valley the nightingale sang
The song about the "Child of the Count":
"Many suitors came from near and far,
"But she was not favourably disposed to any of them,
"She wanted the young king
"Who came back from the war . . ."
The falcon's pretty little daughter
Was a little plagued by curiosity,
Therefore she flew to the nightingale
And asked: "How shall things turn out with king? "
The nightingale said: "My child, if you can wait,
"I shall tell you sometime,
"But while I am composing, you must not
"Plague me with all kinds of questions."
The noble falcon's little daughter
Flew back up to the linden tree again,--
To this day she is still waiting for the nightingale
To find the end of the song.
