Der Wanderer im Walde
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Unter den grünen Zweigen
wandr’ ich so gern dahin;
heiter ist meine Seele,
fröhlich mein Herz und Sinn.

Frei mit den freien Vögeln
sing' ich mein Lied empor.
Lustig des Windes Hauche
stimmen darein als Chor.

Selber die grünen Zweige
singen gar munter mit --
o durch den Wald so gerne
wandr' ich mit frohem Schritt!

Confirmed with Der Chorgesang. Centralblatt für Instrumentalmusik, Chor- und Sologesang, VII. Jahrgang (1893), Nro. 14 (Leipzig, 15. April 1893), page 316.

The wanderer in the woods
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Under the green branches
I so gladly go a-wandering;
my soul is cheerful,
joyful are my heart and spirit.

Free with the free birds
I sing my song heavenward.
The wind's breaths merrily
join in as a chorus.

The green branches themselves
sing along quite blithely --
oh, through the woods I so gladly
wander with a joyful step!
