Bescheiden klopf ich wieder an dein Tor
Und tret in den geliebten Garten ein,
Da atm ich meiner Jugend Lieblingsflor
Aufs neue mit geschärften Sinnen ein.

Herüber duftet aus der Jugendzeit
Begeisterung entrückter Lesestunden,
Doch hab ich nie so tief wie jetzt im Leid
Geliebter Dichtung innigen Wert empfunden.

Aus kühlen Grotten ruft mir Blütenglut
Und süße Leidenschaft ihr Lied ins Herz,
Und heilig wird, was sonst so wehe tut;
Die Dichtung winkt, und lächeln lernt der Schmerz.
